1. Compassion Foundation domestic violence shelter faces closure. The Compassions Foundations domestic violence shelter in Magnolia is facing closure due to a loss of federal funding. The shelter was denied support from the Victims of Crime Act grant for 2025 taking away over $242,000 in federal funding that the shelter has come to rely on. The shelter relied on the funds to pay for the shelters rent, utilities, staff salaries, and victim services. Other shelters in the surrounding area such as El Dorado, Camden, and Saline County were also denied funding. Compassions foundation executive Director Lacey Ogle stated, "Our hears are breaking, we will always do everything we can to connect survivors to safety but without compassions, that safety may be hours away." and that "The distance alone will keep some survivors trapped in dangerous situations. 2. Coach Sam Pittman fired from Razorbacks after loss to Notre Dame. Arkansas announced Sunday morning that Head coach Sam Pittman has been fired following the 56-13 loss to Notre Dame. However, it was not only the sufferable game between Arkansas and Notre Dame that cost Pittman his job but also the weekend before when the Razorbacks let a 18-point lead against Memphis slip through their fingers. Arkansas also stated that Offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino will serve as interim coach for the rest of the season. CBS Sports
3. Gun deal goes wrong; Jacksonville man charged with capital murder. On September 26th Jay Longhibler, a 20-year-old from Jacksonville, was arrested for capital murder after a gun and narcotics deal went wrong. Longhibler states that he shot the victim, Kelveontay Poole, out of self defense after Poole and another man held him at gunpoint and robbed him of his firearms. KATV
4. Gunman drives vehicle into a Morman Church in Michigan killing at least two people and injuring several others. A typical Sunday morning service turned into a horrific scene when a gunman first set part of the church on fire and then drove his vehicle into the church before opening fire of the congregation. Thought the suspect has not been named yet he was shot dead by police. As the investigation continues the FBI will be taking lead to determine the true motive on the attack. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer states "Violence anywhere, especially in a place of worship, is unacceptable," she went on to say that she will be closely monitoring the situation. BBC
5. At least 19 people dead in Russia after suspected alcohol poisoning. The regional government's press service stated that "19 deaths after alcohol consumption were recorded in the Slantsy District in September." Eight of those cases had been confirmed as methanol poisoning through lab testing. Mass deaths from drinking cheap homemade alcohol. Just earlier this week two people were sentenced to prison for making and selling alcohol that killed 50 people in 2023. Russia has tried to crack down on the selling of homemade alcohol especially in areas where the standards of living is very low and the price of vodka is very high. This is not just a issue for Russia, countries such as India, Turkey, and Laos have also had cases of mass deaths from drinking tainted alcohol. CBS News
6. Egyptian Wrestler tries for another Guinness World Record for pulling a ship with his teeth. Egyptian wrestler Ashraf Mahrous, also known as Kabonga, is known throughout Egypt for his remarkable strength. However, he pushed that strength to a new level by pulling a 700-ton ship across the water with a rope. Using only his teeth. But not only did he pull just one 700- ton ship he also pulled two ships together each weighing 1,150 tons together. Mahrous stated in an interview that "I pulled them both, thanks to God, to prove to my friends and the whole world that God blessed me by being the strongest man in the world". Associated Press
8. Adios Pantalones and Tricia Aldridge Shatters records once again. The little yellow stallion has taken the Barrel racing industry by storm, shattering records that nobody that was even possible of shattering. The young stallion, only five years old, has surpassed the $700,000 earnings mark in his young career. After only his first year on the PRCA rodeo circuit, the stallion has been named the highest earning stallion in barrel racing history. With the Rodeo season coming to a close the team is sitting in the fourteenth spot with only a one spot buffer to go to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in December. 11. The Monopoly man is coming back to McDonalds after ten years. McDonalds announced on September 29th that the Monopoly game will be returning to the states after ten years. Soon the peel and play stickers will be back on cups and food cartons. This time costumers can use the app to redeem prizes. Some prizes that have been announced are a Winnebago motorhome, vacations, a Lowe's shopping spree, and even a million dollars in cash. And of course, for those of us who are not so lucky at hitting it big in these big giveaways there is always the chance to win free food. The Today show
12. Jimmy Dean, State Fair and others recall over 58 million Pounds of corndogs. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's food safety and inspection Service announced on September 27th that a recall on Corn dogs and other Sausage-on-a-stick products for wood being found in the batter. The FSIS was notified when Hillshire Brand company received multiple complaints from consumers of wood in the batter. These affected corn dogs were sold to retail and food service locations nationwide. As well as school district and Department of Defense facilities nationwide. After an investigation, it was determined that the wooden sticks had entered the production process prior to battering. The Today Show
13. Protests have begun in Argentina after a livestream showed the murder of two women and a teenage girl. Thousands have begun protesting in Buenos Aires in response to the livestream that was streamed all across Argentina. The livestream showed the entire torture and murder of 15-year-old girl Lara Gutierrez and 20-year-olds Morena Verdi and Brenda del Castillo. Authorities have determined that the gruesome crime was committed by a drug-trafficking gang, that they believe was trying to send a warning. Authorities also believe that the gang leader thought that the women had broken gang rules. Currently the assumed mastermind of the crime is still at large however five suspects are now in custody. The protestors, including the victims' families, are demanding immediate government action and to a resolution to the gender-based violence in a country that has been plagued with femicide.
